Broadway vets Laura Osnes (South Pacific, Grease) and Jeremy Jordan (West Side Story, Rock of Ages) will play the title roles in a forthcoming production of Frank Wildhorn’s Bonnie & Clyde at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida. The musical will run from November 16-December 19, directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun. Opening night will be November 19.
The tale of America’s most infamous outlaw couple, Bonnie & Clyde features music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Don Black and a book by Ivan Menchelll. The show has reportedly been revised since its first mounting in 2009 at the La Jolla Playhouse in California, which starring Osnes and American Idiot leading man Stark Sands.
The cast of the Sarasota production will also include Melissa van der Schyff as Blanche Barrow, Mimi Bessette as Emma Parker, Kevin Massey as Ted Hinton, Claybourne Elder as Buck Barrow, Wayne Duvall as the Sheriff, Leslie Becker as Cumie Barrow/Governor Ferguson, Zach Rand as Young Clyde, and Kelsey Fowler as Young Bonnie. Ensemble members include Daniel Cooney, Dane Dandridge, Victor Hernandez, Laura Hodos, Heather Kopp, Michael Lanning, Kevin Rose, Casey Shea, and Tim Shew.
A second Bonnie and Clyde musical is being developed with a score by Rick Crom and a book by Hunter Foster. As previously reported, a reading of that show took place on September 10 starring Sutton Foster and Will Swenson, directed by Lonny Price.
